Drawing on research that highlights vocabulary as a strong predictor of writing proficiency, Ms Kwan emphasised that meaningful vocabulary growth requires repeated exposure and contextual use rather than memorisation alone.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers experienced practical strategies such as the Word Gradient and the Frayer Model to deepen students\u2019 understanding of new words. The session also explored how AI tools like ChatGPT can support vocabulary development as a \u201cthinking partner\u201d and feedback tool, while stressing that AI should support teaching, not replace it.<\/p>\n<p>Findings from a classroom study involving 12 Year 10 IGCSE ESL learners were shared. After introducing ChatGPT-supported writing practice, students showed improvement in lexical diversity and reported increased motivation and confidence.
