Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB Excel in 2025 International Chemistry Quiz Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB is proud to announce its students’ exceptional achievements in the 2025 International Chemistry Quiz (ICQ), a prestigious global competition organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. This year’s ICQ attracted over 100,000 participants from 21 countries, challenging students to apply chemistry knowledge to real-world scenarios through a demanding 60-minute, 30-question format.
Out of the 32 CHMS BSB students who took part in the competition, 1 earned a High Distinction (placing in the top 10% across Asia), 7 received Distinctions (top 30%), and 10 achieved Credits (top 50%). The certificates are awarded by comparing student results in the same grade.
The ICQ is renowned for its innovative and curriculum-based questions, developed over two years by expert chemistry educators. The competition emphasizes the relevance of chemistry in everyday life and cultivates critical skills such as information extraction, observation, and problem-solving.
Ang Chin Gui, who earned a High Distinction, shared his excitement: “I was overjoyed. I didn’t expect to get such a good grade since it was my first time joining ICQ. While preparing, I really enjoyed doing the practice questions because they were more challenging and made me think harder—and to my surprise, I liked that a lot. This experience has motivated me to keep challenging myself and aim even higher next time.
Principal Mdm. Kho Guik Lan applauded the students for their hard work and impressive achievements, stating, “Our students have shown remarkable intellectual curiosity and perseverance. Their accomplishments on the international stage are a testament to their dedication and the excellence of our science education.”
CHMS BSB extends heartfelt thanks to the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and ASEEDER for providing this transformative platform, which continues to inspire young minds and elevate science education across the region.
