Secondary School

The secondary school comprises the upper and lower secondary sections. In the lower secondary section, both Year 7 and Year 8 follow the SPN 21 curriculum. Year 8 students are to sit for the Student Progress Examination (SPE), the public examination at the end of the year. In the current upper secondary level, students are to sit for the Brunei Cambridge GCE ’O’ Level Examination when they proceed to Year 11.

Lower Secondary

The lower secondary level consists of Year 7 and Year 8. Upon the completion of Year 8, students may go to either the Science stream or the Art stream. The academic year is divided into two semesters. During the first semester, Year 7 and Year 8 students are required to sit for Periodic Assessment 1 and Mid-Year Examination. During the second semester, Year 7 students are to sit for Periodic Assessment 2 and Year-End Examination while Year 8 students have to sit for Trial Examination and Graduation Examination. Other assessments include student’s classwork, homework and projects.

Lower Secondary Education Approach

Subjects that are offered for Year 7 and Year 8 include Bahasa Melayu and Jawi, English Language, Chinese Language, Mathematics, Physical Education, Social Studies, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), Science, Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK), Civics, and BAT (Business, Art and Technology).

Upper Secondary

Depending on their results, Year 8 students will proceed to Year 9, either the Science or the Art stream This means that students will sit for the GCE’O’ Level examinations at the end of Year 11. The academic year is divided into two semesters. During the first semester, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students are required to sit for Test 1 and Mid-Year Examination. During the second semester, Year 9 and Year 10 students are to sit for Periodic Assessment 2 and Year-End Examination while Year 11 students have to sit for Trial Examination and Graduation Examination.

Upper Secondary Education Approach

The upper secondary section is divided into 2 streams, the Art stream and the Science stream. Subjects that are offered for the Art stream students include Bahasa Melayu, English Language, Chinese Language, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), Mathematics, Geography, Principles of Accounts, Commercial Studies, Combined Science, Art, Travel and Tourism, Economics, World History and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

 

Students are required to take all the core subjects and they can also take one of the elective subjects (Geography, Travel and Tourism, and Art and Design) in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination. Subjects that are offered for the science stream students include Bahasa Melayu, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), English Language, Chinese Language, Additional Mathematics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Physical Education, Islamic Religious Knowledge (for Muslim students only).

 

Elective subjects include Economics, Commerce, Travel and Tourism, Art and Design, and World History.

Student Progress Report

All test and exam papers are marked and returned to the students. Mid-year progress reports are collected by the parents during parent-teacher interaction session. During this session, parents can meet their child’s teachers in person to get more information about their child’s academic performance.
