Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS), a non-profit Chinese private school with a history of more than one hundred years, has recently completed an important leadership restructuring.
The Board of Directors announced that former Deputy Principal (Academic), Mdm. Teo Siew Ying, has been appointed Acting Principal effective 1 June 2026. Assistant Principal (Administration), Mdm. Teh Siew Eng, has also been promoted to Deputy Principal (Administration) with effect from the same date. The principal, Mdm. Kho Guik Lan, has been appointed Principal’s Advisor and will assist the new leadership team during the transition period to ensure a smooth handover.
In addition, Mdm. Soh Kiaw Han was promoted earlier this year to Acting Assistant Principal of the Primary Section. The management teams of the Secondary Section and Kindergarten remain unchanged, with Mdm. Tan Been Tiem continuing as Assistant Principal of the Secondary Section and Ms. Sim Man Ling remaining as Assistant Principal of the Kindergarten.
Principal Kho Guik Lan Appointed Advisor to Provide Guidance During the Transition
Over the years, Principal Mdm. Kho Guik Lan has devoted herself wholeheartedly to the development of the school, leading it to remarkable achievements in academics, cultural heritage, and campus development. She has earned the deep respect and trust of staff and parents alike.
To ensure a smooth leadership transition, the Board has specially appointed her as an advisor. During this transition period, she will use her extensive experience and professional expertise to help Acting Principal Mdm. Teo Siew Ying become familiar with school operations and ensure the continuity and smooth functioning of all school affairs.
Principal’s Advisor, Mdm. Kho stated:
“I sincerely thank everyone for your trust and support over the years. It is my honour to continue serving the school in the capacity of an advisor during this transition period. I wholeheartedly wish the new management team every success, and I hope we can continue to work together to make this century-old school even more outstanding.”
Continuity Through Internal Leadership Development
The position of Acting Principal has been entrusted to former Deputy Principal (Academic), Mdm. Teo Siew Ying. During her tenure, she was responsible for curriculum reform and the implementation of smart teaching initiatives. She is well acquainted with the school’s educational vision and fully understands the significance of preserving Chinese education. In her new role, she will focus on enhancing teaching quality and promoting the holistic development of students.
The position of Deputy Principal (Administration) has been assumed by former Assistant Principal (Administration), Mdm. Teh Siew Eng. She will continue assisting the Acting Principal in overseeing the school’s administrative affairs and improving administrative efficiency to better support teaching and learning.
As Acting Assistant Principal of the Primary Section, Mdm. Soh Kiaw Han will focus on strengthening primary education and character development among students. Meanwhile, the Assistant Principals of the Kindergarten and Secondary Section remain unchanged, ensuring management stability and continuity of experience in these two divisions.
Acting Principal Mdm. Teo Siew Ying stated:

The Board of Directors of Chung Hwa Middle School emphasised that this personnel change does not represent a break from the past, but rather the passing of the torch from one generation of leaders to the next. It is hoped that this restructuring will build upon previous achievements and create a more efficient and united management team, continuing the proud traditions of this century-old Chinese school.
